Caribbean Beauty of the Month - February 2014

Athaliah Samuel

Athaliah_Samuel_3.jpg

Our Caribbean Beauty of  the Month is Athaliah Samuel, a young model (1.78 M / 5 ft 10 in) from Laventille, Trinidad and Tobago. She is the last of four children and the first to graduate from school, she studied Communications. Her name ‘Athaliah’ comes from the bible, a queen of the twelve tribe of Israel. This Caribbean Beauty is Miss Trinidad and Tobago World 2012 and represented this beautiful nation in the Miss World 2012 pageant in China, ending in the top 50.

Furthermore, besides being a model, she is National Director for Miss Trinidad and Tobago World 2013, CEO and director of her own company Trinidad and Tobago World Class Limited, writer (columnist for local daily’s), founder for Athaliah and Friends and S.M.I.L.E foundation, GYCA (Global Youth Coalition for HIV and AIDS) ambassador, mentor and a stylist. She is a very busy and talented woman, and she is only 26 years old! Her lifelong passion is a combination of things that forms into one thing and it stems from all of the things that she is presently doing to ultimate gold of becoming an international icon recognized for fashion and runway modeling, educator and proud businesswoman. She will get there, this only requires hard work, faith and believe in oneself.

She has been modeling since the age of 15 which started off with a community pageant where she designed her evening gown and other garments. She won the ‘Evening Gown’ segment and was rewarded a year of modeling with Fashion Guru ‘Richard Young’. Ever since, even though being a tomboy, she loved modeling and stuck through it even at a long point in time where she was not making money. Nonetheless, she felt like a different person when hitting the stage.

One of her top moments of being a model, is when she was placed in the top model segment of Miss World 2012. Another moment was when she represented Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean’s Next Top Model Season 1, as one of the 23 contestants, where she came out in the top 5.

During the years as a model she learnt that one should never let where you are from stop you from that one moment of at least trying and do not take no for an answer unless it feels like definitely a NO. Just do the home work, be prepared and  ALWAYS STAND OUT!

Besides modeling she is also a talented businesswoman. She intends to take some trips to test agencies, she will be hosting an official launch for her company (Trinidad and Tobago World Class Limited) and will also be training models for both runway and pageants.

She loves the beauty and fashion business and is very passionate about it. You can tell that by only seeing her working as she enjoys each moment and take advantage of that one moment that could be her break through moment. She is also that person that wants to get out there and help make a difference in someone’s life, being currently ‘GYCA’ ambassador.

This beauty has many talents,
she also came from a house of talented people. She also styles and does hair - had her own line of personal in house clients when she was younger -, ran tracks from probably 5 years old to about 14, played a number of sports which she now only watches as she lacks time to do them, and she started designing clothes from age 10. As a child, even though she was a tomboy, her mother would tune in every year, as a rule, for Miss Universe and Miss World whenever it came on. She then loved to recreate the dresses until she found it better to come up with her own. This eventually turned into a passion for art and she went hard into art at secondary level. She also aspired to be a dancer, which she got a nice opportunity to do both locally and internationally. She was involved with a community dance group called NSANITY which amongst others competed on ‘Party Flavor’ a local TV dance show. She also back up danced for Soca Queen Destra Garcia for almost 3 years through which she toured the Caribbean, Canada, USA and other countries.

Having a passion for fashion she is definitely in tune with the fashion world and familiar with Caribbean fashion designers. Deson Ayinde, Ricky Bhowram, Sonia Noel, Meiling, and Adrian Foster are only a few of the many talented Caribbean designers she adores and recommends to anyone, based on their personal style and craftsmanship.

Athaliah is an ambitious woman with a bright future. In five years she wants her business to be in full swing, and that she will be recognized and seen for her work. It is her dream to be awarded as a Cultural Ambassador as she aims to push her country as far as she can see. As a strong believer she prays for life, health, strength and her family to be around to enjoy her moments with her with all the hopes of making them and her supporters proud.
