Our Caribbean Beauty of  the Month is Leah Janine Marville (height 1.73, 5 feet 7 inches) is a 28-year-old beauty born and raised in Saint James, Barbados. She is not only a model, and TV host but also attorney-at-law, former Miss Barbados World 2009 (representing Barbados at the 59th Miss World pageant, hosted in Johannesburg, South Africa where she won the "Continental Queen of Beauty" Award for being the highest placed Caribbean delegate and the Miss World "People's Choice" award; her Love Campaign as her "Beauty With A Purpose" project for the Miss Barbados World  won second place and received an award from the HIV Commission of Barbados and the HIV Food Bank), and is the owner of Marville Management that took over the Miss Barbados World franchise in 2011. 

 

 

In 2006 Leah was discovered during Barbados Fashion Week (BFW), being encouraged by a group of friends and her cousin to attend the casting call for BFW while jus being a third year law student, by Dwight Peters (CEO of Saint International, a Jamaica-based model agency) and that was the beginning of her international career. She participated in the Fashion Face of the Caribbean competition in Jamaica, where she ended as second runner-up. She later left to New York to develop her portfolio, recommended by international pageant scouts from Elite Model Management and MC. Leah was signed internationally to South African agency Base Model Management, German model agency East West Models and to RED model management in New York. In 2008, being signed to South African agency Base Model Management, she started professionally as a model in Cape Town.

Her most notable work as a model is her features in Cosmopolitan, Elle, Marie Claire and her covers for SHE Caribbean and Zing LIAT Magazine in 2009. This beauty was also named the "Sexiest Woman Alive" by Global Beauties in that same year. Dunhill Cigarettes, American Swiss, Blue Ice deodorant, and Nivea-Visage are just a few of the clients that she worked for. Furthermore, Leah has also participated in fashion shows across the Caribbean; she was seen on the runway during Barbados Fashion Week, Style Week Jamaica invited to participate by her agent Dwight Peters , Saint Kitts Fashion Weekend, Guyana Fashion Week, Dominicana Moda, and Fashion Week Trinidad and Tobago. In 2010 at the Caribbean Fashion Awards, she even received the award for ‘Top Caribbean Female Model’ and her tenth anniversary SHE Caribbean magazine cover was also awarded ‘Best Caribbean Magazine Cover’ for 2010. The following year she was signed as the face and spokes model for the inaugural staging of Caribbean International Fashion Week.

In 2008, Leah was a guest host in the music show ‘Wicked Style’  after meeting with executive producers for this’ BET J Caribbean’ music show when she attended the BET Awards in 2006. In 2009 she was promoted to the main host and co-produced the Barbados and Jamaican episodes of the music show. Later she produced and directed ‘Young Execs’ which is a Barbadian reality show modelled on ‘The Apprentice’ with Richard Haynes, CEO of South Central Entertainment (Barbados),  assuming  the role of Donald Trump. In 2009 she also produced her own lifestyle reality show ‘Passport 246’  in partnership with Mykal Cushnie of DSE Media in Jamaica and in 2010 she launched the second season Passport246: Journey to Miss World  which was syndicated on Tempo Networks in July 2011.

Besides launching the second season of her own lifestyle reality show ‘Passport 246’  in 2010, she was also a host on, together with Tamara Ennis and Trinidadian model Crystal Cunningham, ‘Splash!’ which is a Caribbean lifestyle series on Black Entertainment Television sister network Centric. She also joined the cast of Splash! in 2011 for the second season.

Leah is also well-educated, she studied law at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill campus, Barbados and received her Bachelor of Laws with honours in 2007. In 2012 she completed her Legal Education Certificate at the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad and got professional work experience as an intern at the prominent entertainment law firm “Gordon-McGrath” in Jamaica where she worked for high profile clients such as Beenie Man and family members of the late Bob Marley, and she also worked at the Jamaica Human Rights Council being responsible for managing the human rights of death row inmates.  

She is a talented dancer as well, she was part of the group ‘Dance Africa’ since the age of four and performed with this group until she was 21.  Her goal is to contribute to the development of Barbados as a fashion destination of the Caribbean and the world where people can visit the island to scout for modelling, acting and entertainment talent. Another goal is to use her success for humanitarian purposes, being actively involved with encouraging people to abandon the HIV social stigma. In 2009 she launched The Love Campaign as a HIV/AIDS awareness program and in 2010 she launched The Love Campaign School Tour, which was aimed to promote healthy lifestyles to children at several secondary schools in Barbados.
