Caribbean Fashion Designer of the Week Jul 28 -Aug 4, 2014

Delia Alleyne

Delia Alleyne is a fashion designer from Barataria, Trinidad and Tobago. The talented designer was into sewing, and making clothing as long as she can remember.  Her dream to become a fashion designer started when Delia was a young girl growing up in Scarborough helping her mother who is a seamstress to hand stitch the beadwork to customers' gowns.  She studied Fashion & Design at the Caribbean Academy of Fashion and Design – University of Trinidad and Tobago from 2008 to 2012.

She loves colors, details, customization, and experimenting with texture . Her designs can best be described as innovative, colorful, punky, edgy, wearable and fashion forward.  She caters for the bold and daring woman. Delia gets inspired by pretty much anything, even by celebrities like the Barbados pop singer Rihanna and Lady Gaga. Her latest collection which she showed on the runway at Caribbean Fashion Week 2014 in Kingston, Jamaica was inspired by futuristic objects. She likes science fiction and implemented these features into the beautiful pieces which we all got to admire at Caribbean Fashion Week 2014.

Oasap Limited

Her passion is sewing and teaching, and prefers to combine both. As a matter of fact, she taught  the Project Runway winner Anya Ayoung Chee  how to sew, four months prior to Anya’s participation on season 9 of the fashion and design reality show ‘Project Runway’ in 2011. After Ayoung-Chee's Project Runway experience  she might even consider opening a school for sewing lessons one day.

Here are some designs created by 'Delia Alleyne' :

More

Delia is a very skilled, promosing designer and definitely one of best and known designers in the Caribbean fashion scene. We got the chance to meet this talent twice at two different international fashion events. Delia was part of the Trinidad and Tobago delegation  in Suriname for CARIFESTA XI in 2013, where she showcased her designs at several events during this cultural and arts festival. This year she participated at Caribbean Fashion Week, as mentioned earlier, where we once again were amazed by her innovative designs. Delia plans to participate as well at New York Fashion Week 2014 this September to showcase her Spring 2015 collection.

She is certainly one of our favorite designers and hopefully her pieces can soon be purchased also at Dy Muñeca the Caribbean Fashion Spot.
