Caribbean Fashion Designer of the Week Febr 17 - Febr 24, 2014

Jenny Polanco

Jenny_Polanco.jpgJenny Polanco is a Domican Republic’s top fashion designer, who is known to be very creative,  versatile, and engaged in different fashion projects. She does not only have a clothing line, but also jewelry, handbags/clutches, and accessories. Jenny is in the fashion business for over 30 years with experience not only in her own country but also Puerto Rico, Bahamas, Paris and New York, and has now six outlets in the Dominican Republic and one in Haiti.

The clothing that she designs is both ready to wear and couture, and known for its ‘classic’, ‘sophisticated’ and at the same time ‘simple’ look.  In her designs one can see Dominican influences and crafts, for example in the buttons, the hand crafted artistic characteristics, and by the leather details.

Her jewelry and complements designs are also primarily handcrafted and made from amber, pearls, semiprecious stones like larimar, and coral. The clutches she makes are very beautiful, well designed and the clasps of these bags are made possible by the use of the ‘guayacan’, a tropical hardwood.

Furthermore, in her stores you can also find some Jenny Polanco designed souvenirs and gifts with a Dominican flavor and Haitian arts and crafts, like baskets, masks and plates.

Here are some beautiful designs by 'Jenny Polanco'
