Caribbean Fashion Designer of the Week Oct 20  - Oct 27, 2014

Kyle Matas

Kyle Matas is a Trinidadian born fashion designer who is based in New York.  This young talent has been designing his entire life, and he started designing professionally when he was only sixteen years old.  Hence, his passion in life is to create beauty in the world through his artistic medium, called fashion.

Kyle’s inspiration changes every season, according to him his inspiration can range from contemporary art and architecture to foreign cultures. In his own words: “Every day I wake up not knowing where my inspiration is going to come from, which for me, is very exciting”.

Oasap Limited

Although he likes different aspects of each collection that he creates, his favorite collection to date is his Spring / Summer 2015 collection that he showcased as well during New York Fashion Week  2014 at the Fashion Gallery showcase in September 2014, which was well received by the audience. He loves this collection, because it really speaks to who he is as a designer and his overall aesthetic.

Kyle refers to his collection as luxury ready to wear, because he believes that it’s a hybrid of prêt-a-porter and haute couture. Although not consisting of one of-a-kind pieces, as in the case of haute couture, he tries to adhere to many of the high standards of haute couture. He adds that - he ensures that there is impeccable craftsmanship, artisan quality, and the selection of the finest available materials within each piece. It´s prêt-a-porter to the extent that, it’s produced in a full size range, is completely wearable and also more accessible -.

Kyle explains that he targets his clothing towards women who want to look fashion forward, but at the same time look easy and effortless and most importantly feel comfortable. We believe that he is doing a great job and he is one of the few Caribbean designers that creates high quality clothing that looks easy to wear, beautiful, elegant, timeless and that is unique.  His clothing looks wearable for different occasions from sophisticated to a more casual (party) event.

Here are some designs created by 'Kyle Matas' :

More

Kyle participated at several fashion events and this season alone he showed his collection at New York Fashion Week, London Fashion Week and Charlotte Style Week. His focus is on the North American and European markets, since he is based in New York City and we would be delighted to assist him in this as PR. In five years he would love to see his brand being available in every major luxury department store around the world, from Bergdorf Goodman in New York to Galeries Lafayette in Paris and Harrods in London. He also hopes to be a member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA).

With the assistance of ‘Dy Muñeca the Caribbean Fashion Spot Kyle can definitely grow internationally, especially in Europe, as we will promote his brand in Europe whenever he wants, starting in Barcelona.

His clothing can be purchased through his webshop and hopefully soon also through  Dy Muñeca the Caribbean Fashion Spot for wholesale and individual orders in Europe.
