As 'Dy Muñeca the Caribbean Fashion Spot' aims to make the world aware of the many fashion talents we have in the Caribbean, each week we will announce a "Caribbean Fashion Designer of the Week". We just want to show to the Caribbean and to the world that there is a Caribbean fashion industry full with art, craftsmanship and ready to be explored!!!!

We believe in ‘think globally and act locally’, and the first step is to support and believe in our local fashion designers.  Shop local with our Caribbean Fashion Designers and give your support to build a successful Caribbean Fashion Industry.

 'Caribbean Fashion Designer of the Year 2017'  

 

We chose Charu Lochan Dass as our Caribbean Fashion Designer of the Year 2017. She is a high-end fashion designer from Trinidad and Tobago. In July 2015 she was part of the Caribbean fashion show at Mercedes-Benz FashionWeek Amsterdam, and in 2014 she participated at New York Fashion Week, and many more international fashion events. She deserves the recognition and to be our Caribbean Fashion Designer of the Year 2017. She will be frequently featured at Caribbean Fashion Spot, on our website and social media pages for more exposure and recognition as an international fashion designer.

 'Caribbean Fashion Designer of the Year 2016'  

 

We chose Atelier Doré from Suriname as our Caribbean Fashion Designer of the Year 2016. A high-end jewelry brand that is one-of-a-kind and hand crafted. In July 2015 they were part of the Caribbean fashion show at Mercedes-Benz FashionWeek Amsterdam,  they were also featured in many fashion magazines in 2015 like Vogue Netherlands, Elegance. They deserve the recognition and to be our Caribbean Fashion Designer of the Year 2016. They will be frequently featured at Caribbean Fashion Spot, on our website and social media pages for more exposure and recognition as an international fashion designer.

 'Caribbean Fashion Designer of the Year 2015'  

 

We chose Giannina Azar from Dominican Republic as our Caribbean Fashion Designer of the Year 2015. She was chosen as she is a very original and innovative designer that always uses high-quality fabrics like silk chiffon and silk gazar.  Her designs are so one-of-a-kind; beautiful and elegant pieces that you have never seen before. Giannina deserves the recognition and to be our Caribbean Fashion Designer of the Year 2015. She will be frequently featured at Caribbean Fashion Spot, on our website and social media pages for more exposure and recognition as an international fashion designer. She will get the chance to be a featured designer during one of our fashion shows in Europe later this year.

Sylvia Berté is a young jewelry designer from Martinique and the owner of the brand SWA which she founded in 2009.  As a child she was always interested in designing things, especially jewelry, and made her own by hand. She never studied fashion or design, instead political science, and just her passion for designing drove her to pursue a career as a jewelry designer.

Anneliese Dayes is from London, England, she is of St. Lucian and Jamaican descent and the owner of the brand ‘Frills By AD’ that designs funky-frilly socks which you can wear with different outfits. The socks can be worn with flat shoes, trainers, heels, boots etc. and she plans to take over the world with her funky-frilly socks.

Arthlene Laudat Legair is a high fashion designer from Dominica. She is the founder and CEO of ‘LeGair Brand Ltd’ and she relocated to New York in 1987. Arthlene has many years of experience in fashion and she is a self-taught designer. She started designing and sewing at an early age of twelve. Now she is an award-winning international celebrity fashion designer, stylist, and an author (her first book ‘Where my hope comes from’ was released in December 2013).  Her LeGair brand designs have both Caribbean and  French influences, making her designs very unique.

Esther Joseph, known as Queen Esther,  is a fashion designer from St. Lucia, she is the creative mastermind behind ‘Kuumba Designs’ which offers both women and men's ready to wear and couture designs, and also accessories.  She created ‘Kuumba Designs’ to conceptualize the essence of life, expressing happiness, joy, love, laughter between men and women, and achievements. She wanted to design clothing that is sustainable, ecological with Caribbean influences. One can see in her designs her love for humanity which is shown in the awareness of the ecological usage of textiles.

Tamiko Browne is an up-and-coming eco-swim & resort wear designer from St. Vincent and the Grenadines, originally from the United States. In 2008, at the age of 33 she created  the swimwear label ‘TAMI B Designs’ which is an international luxury eco-swimwear brand and that without any formal training. She just wanted a swimwear line that bridges the gap for women who are inspired by the past and who re-invent the future while being environmentally conscious.

When growing up both his cultural background and his artistic family, especially his artistic grandmother who sewed, triggered him to develop a passion for designing. At the age of 17, after he graduated high school in Belize, he moved to California to study Fashion Design, a Bachelor’s Degree. He graduated and received several designs awards.

Rebecca Stirm is a 21-year-old fashion designer, born and raised in Belmopan, Belize.  She is a self-taught clothing designer;  she was drawing, sketching designs and sewing clothing from the age of 11. She received a sewing machine on sale at ‘Courts’ from her parents and as a teenager she started cutting apart old clothes to see how they were made, and cut and re-shaped old patterns to make them her size. By trial and error while sewing for herself she learnt to make patterns and sew them together.

Roger Gary, born in Guyana, is a fashion designer based in New York. His passion for fashion and art started at an early age, while already creating unique and unpredictable pieces. It was pretty clear that he was talented and he began to study fashion and art. He first attended the E.R Burrowes School of Art in Guyana, tutored by the late Dennis Williams, and then he attended the Jamaica School of Art in Kingston, Jamaica. From that moment on he knew that he wanted to pursue a career in ‘Fashion Design’ and went to New York.

Adrian Foster is a young fashion designer from Trinidad and Tobago. In his youngest age, unaware of a fashion industry, he was engaged in imaginative drawing and had collections of paper drawn female dolls. Later on, as a teenager he was introduced to a great friend of his mother – the late Mr. Anthony “Brownie” MacFarlane – who was involved in the beauty and pageant industry.

Isaiah Luther is a 22-year-old designer living in Guyana and has always been interested in fashion.  He grew up with fashion as his father was a skilled tailor and as a child he used to make clothes for his sisters’ dolls from the pieces of scrap cloth left over from his father’s work . You can say that he inherited the craft from his father.
